The barrel is a metal cylinder with openings at both ends, and the interior is a precisely machined cavity. The screw rotates right in this cavity. It is usually made of high-strength, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloy steel, and the inner wall undergoes special hardening treatment.
Accommodation and molding: It provides a closed space and channel for the entire extrusion process (solid conveying, melting, mixing, homogenization, and venting), and forms the shape of the final product through the die head at the outlet.
Provide heat exchange: This is one of the most crucial functions of the barrel. Through the externally set heating and cooling system, the barrel precisely controls the temperature of the material, ensuring that the material can be smoothly plasticized (melted) and maintained at the optimal processing temperature.
Interaction with the screw: The inner wall of the barrel and the surface of the screw groove jointly form a shearing effect on the material. The reason why materials can be sheared, mixed and compacted is precisely due to the relative motion between the screw and the stationary barrel.
